While in ITP, I took the class Readymades which the aim of that class in to create "art piece" based on existing object. I made a Rear Window doll house, an Old Chair, and a Loving Umbrella in that class. They are more like a bunch of quirky objects than art pieces but I really like them so here they are.

I'm a big Hitchcock fan and among all his movies the one I like the best is Rear window. In this project, me and Gladys made a paper doll house and put an old monitor in. We peeled off the polarizing film on the monitor so you can't see anything with your bare eyes. The trick here is that we attached a layer of polarizing film to the lens of a camera so the audiences can only see things through that special camera.

The Old Chair's idea actually comes from TV show Top Gear. It might not seem related but I remember there's one time when Jeremy Clarkson sits down on a chair and makes a long "ahhhh" sound and said, "You know you are old when you are making sounds while sitting down". For some unknown reason, that scene just stuck in my head so I made this chair with Gladys, a chair that makes old man's sound when you sit on it and get nervous when you try to rock it.

The last one is a Loving Umbrella. In Taiwan, we have this custom that draws an umbrella with a heart on it and puts two people's name under the umbrella and wishes they will be in love(actually I think that might be more of a Japanese thing). This project is inspired by this custom, me and Leslie decided to make this Loving Umbrella. We use Arduino and a bluetooth speaker to make the umbrella sing classical love song the Careless Whisper. The outcome is hilarious cause we all love George Michael and people just got crazy when they hear the Careless Whisper. Enjoy the video and the song.
