This project is part of the Splash design challenge.

Problem:

Right now Splash is unable to capture guests info who are trying to register at the door (These guests aren’t on the guest list currently but we want them to be). Guests are saying registration is taking too long and the experience is not engaging enough for them.

Research:

The first thing I do is to start brainstorming about different possibilities, things such as:

  1. Bluetooth, exchange contact
  2. QR Code scan
  3. Sound/Voice/BioSensing, Signature?
  4. Text message, Asterisk, might be weird to ask ppl to send their email to a number

Above four are more "technical" solutions I came up with while brainstorming. But I soon found out these all requires a lot of works and 2 and 3 require pre-registration so might to be the solution in this case. The current registration flow is actually fast enough and I don't think we should reinvent wheel here so I started to think about how to make the process more engaging.

The first idea is to make it be music related, maybe like an orchestra where each device can be turned into an instrument. While it sounds fun, but it also feels too much like an installation and it might just ends up taking too much time.

The second idea is to using the camera. People love to selfies, especially during events. So why don't we make this part of the registration? And the best part is, event organizers can even provide guests event-related frame or stickers, just like those Facebook profile pictures.

Solution:

SplashCam uses selfie with event-related stickers/frames and scannable code to reduce the time of registration process and to make the process more fun and engaging. Below is the one-sheet to explain the idea.
